The Good Person of Sezuan (Trenchtown)

The Good Person of Sezuan as a new translation of Bertolt Brecht’s play was set in Trenchtown, Jamaica during the 1980s when imported guns and the trafficking of cocaine destablised the country with poor people already suffering caught in the ensuing political violence. Written by McMillan, the play uses Jamaican patoi (creole nation language) to tell the story of three gods, who come in search of a good person, Rhema/Renward with the background of political violence, shantytown poverty, Bob Marley & The Wailers, flared trousers and platform shoes.

It was produced by Midland Actors Theatre (MAT), and directed by David Allen, with a large ensemble cast of mixed professional and community based actors aged 11 - 60 years old. After a successful run in 2010, The Good Person of Sezuan toured across the Midlands again in 2012.
