First Impressions
First Impressions is about the story of a mixed-heritage Black young woman, who meets her Black father for the first time, when he turns up at her 18th Birthday party. Her conflict to accept or reject him, and his coming to terms with 18 years absence is inter-cut with flashbacks to the Nottingham race riots 1958 (which eventually spread to Notting Hill the same year where Kelso Cochrane was murdered), and Notting Hill Carnival riots 1976. It was produced for Perspectives Theatre Company and toured as a Youth Show in the East Midlands. This was an ensemble production directed by Sally Aphrahamian, and the cast included: Teohna Williams, Ian Roberts (Kwame Kwei-Armah), Helen White and Terry Holmes.
